Guild Wars was first out with Guild Wars: Prophecies in April 2005 that challenged WoW for the time. GW brought us 6 classes for the first instalation there was; Warrir who is the brute force of the game, Necromancer who is the evil force who can raise the dead for minions, Monk healer of the wounds, Elemantilist who can rain down different elements on its enemies, Archer who can see through anything and hit his mark, and the Mesmer who messes with your mind. GW also brought us some excellent PvE (player versus enviroment) and PvP (player versus player) which you could all team up with a group of freinds or a "Guild"- a organized group of freinds who has its own name and side of chose- and compete agianst others in PvP. In PvE you have a story to follow with quest and side quest which can bring into you money items and experiance. With the experiance it brings you levels but the highest level you can get up to is 20.

One year later exactly NCsoft brought out Guild Wars: Factions, which brought 2 new classes and a new land to explore. The 2 new classes were the Assassign who is low on defense but the fastest out there and the Ritualist who brings spirts to do damage or protect you at times. The new map it brought was like an old china town. The enviroment in this series is amazing and will consume your life with the titles that you can boast to others in the towns. This expansion brings the "Faction Points" where you can Play PvE but mostly PvP to get and buy high end material to get armor or simply just sell.

Last but not least the third instalment Guild Wars: Nightfall was released later that year. The great new idea of heros which are your own henchmen which level up with you and are advanced computer-controlled units that can be micro-managed by players, including the ability to customise their skill layout and equipment. This changed how Guild Wars had been played to how it will play later on in the series.

Later this year they will have the new Guild Wars: Eye of the North will not be exactly like its 3 predecessors it will not bring any new classes or a tutorial but will bring more missions, armor, skills, and even some dungeons for excisting users this is a must buy for them.

For GW to enter the MMORPG genre with WoW dominating it was a brave choice of them but they did hold there own and have a lasting effect on the PC world.
