Oh, EA. Have you learned nothing from Nintendo's debacle that was the Super Mario Bros. movie?
Variety broke the news this morning that 20th Century Fox has acquired the feature film rights to Electronic Arts' hugely successful Sims games, with the hopes of bringing the franchise to the silver screen in the form of a live-action pic. The film is being set up with John Davis as producer and Brian Lynch writing the script. Davis' previous work includes the films Eragon and Norbit, while Lynch is probably best known for the script of Scary Movie 3. EA's interest in the movie will be overseen by Rod Humble, executive producer on the Sims game series.
"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Humble. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."
No further details have been released so far about the pending movie, though it's probably safe to assume that, should the flick ever see the light of day, EA would get first dibs on handling the video game adaptation.

Well, considering the same brilliant mind that brought us Norbit is penning the screenplay, I guess we can all rest easy. I've already called Moviephone and acquired my advance tickets. I'll be starting the advance lineup at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles beginning this weekend. See everyone there!

Does that mean we are going to see two hours of Eddie Murphy speaking in Simlish?
