With new technology come new gaming opportunities. A new free-to-join website has emerged and has capitalized on the latest in computer and gaming advances. StreamMyGame.com CEO, Richard Faria explains that “we are embarking on a new paradigm in the gaming industry fuelled by advances in computer hardware, network speeds, and the want of gamers to have more freedom.”
How does the site accomplish this? StreamMyGame.com provides it’s members with a free plugin that converts computer games into IPTV channels called “Game Streams.” By converting a game’s video and audio into a Game Stream, games can be sent over a home network to be played remotely from a laptop or a second PC. These Game Steams can be created with resolutions up to Super HDTV 3200 x 2400. What exactly does that mean for gamers? Faria explains that “we network the power of their main PC so it can be used to play high-end games on other PCs and laptops around the home.”
StreamMyGame is currently compatible with Windows XP and Vista, with all computer games based on Microsoft’s DirectX8, DirectX9, and DirectX10. This includes some of the newest and hottest games like FIFA 08 and BioShock. Not much of a PC gamer but love the PC games? Before the end of 2007, a Linux version will be released which will enable PC games to be played on PlayStation 3, DVD players, set top boxes, networked media devices, and even mobile phones.
This new revolutionary service will enable games to be played remotely over broadband networks (with enough capacity like Verizon’s FiOS) in early 2008. In addition, game publishers will be able to use StreamMyGame.com to establish Pay-for-Play services. Wait, there’s more. StreamMyGame also offers members the ability to record and broadcast gameplay and includes a free MP4 video player. And for you elite gamers, the MP4 format keeps file sizes low and are YouTube-ready.
StreamMyGame.com should be an amazing addition to gaming technology which, in addition to broadening the scope of where users can play, will help gaming communities come together. Let’s just hope a few bad apples don’t abuse the system and ruin it for the whole bunch of us. Make love, not war (unless you’re gaming).
