SpaceTime, an innovator of 3D technology, announced earlier today that its flagship application is now available to the public in the form of a free beta download. SpaceTime is a free consumer PC software application that enables searching, shopping, and browsing in an unlimited 3D environment. SpaceTime revolutionizes the process of Web searching with three key functionalities: 3D Search, 3D eBay Search, and 3D Tabbed Browsing.
• 3D Search:
The SpaceTime 3D search functionality loads multiple search results as a stack of separate pages. Unlike ordinary search, which returns a list of links that you have to click one at a time, SpaceTime simultaneously loads 10 results at a time, each in its own window. Using a mouse or keyboard, users can then quickly and easily flip through the results, re-arrange the pages or manipulate them as desired. This search functionality supports Google, Google Images, Yahoo!, Yahoo! Images, Flickr, eBay and others.
• 3D eBay Search:
As a certified member of the eBay Developers Program, SpaceTime leverages eBay’s Web Services Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), which enable third-party developers to create Web-based applications used to conduct business with the eBay Platform. SpaceTime has developed a way to make browsing eBay listings more like flipping through an electronic catalog of full-sized images. Users can also explore other retail sites in its 3D space for ease of comparison shopping.
• 3D Tabbed Browsing:
SpaceTime enables Web browsing in an unlimited 3D space. It allows users to map out their browsing progress in a visual timeline, treating each Web site as an object that can be manipulated and rearranged within the 3D environment. Users can alternate between 3D and 2D perspectives to facilitate traditional browsing, without the hassle of pop-ups and clicks on the Back button.
“I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to try SpaceTime for themselves,” said CEO and Founder Eddie Bakhash. “Since the inception of the Internet, the process of browsing has been limited and static. Now users can enjoy the richness of the Web with an application that is more interactive, intuitive and fun.”
SpaceTime is a stand-alone application that is available as a free download for PC-users at www.spacetime.com. The system requirements to run SpaceTime are pretty hefty, especially for older systems. The program requires Windows 2000, XP, or Vista operating systems, 512 MB of RAM, 128 MB of video RAM, and a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or AMD 2400xp+ processor. There also appears to be some problems with getting the app to run correctly under Vista. Still, if you have the horsepower to run it, the program is something worth toying around with, especially once the bugs get worked out.
