1992: Bart vs. The Juggernauts, Bartman Meets Radioactive Man, Bart’s Nightmare, Krusty’s Fun House Versus the Juggernauts?
That’s right. The fifth Bart game parodied the then-popular show American Gladiators and saw Bart fighting his way through a variety of events in an almost mini-game fashion.
The first game to feature Bartman required Bart to enter into the comic book world of his favorite character, Radioactive Man, in a side-scrolling beat-em-up. The most prominent complaint about the game was the sheer difficulty, as these were the times of games with no continues and few extra lives.
Bart’s Nightmare, for the Genesis, had unusual gameplay. It was only partially a side-scroller, with Bart having to find the missing pages of his homework in a dream-world. Once he found a page, a mini-game would be played to get the page. It also featured quite a few different endings, based on how many pages were collected, and if the player even managed to finish the game completely.
Finally, one of the first non-Bart games appeared with Krusty in the lead role. The game took a completely different approach - a puzzle game in which Krusty had to guide a bunch of rats around obstacles to their demise in a rodent trap.
1993: Bart and the Beanstalk
Thefinal Bart-centric Simpsons game, this one saw the Simpsons’ world merging with the fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk, with Homer cast as the giant. By now, folks were quite simply done with Bart, and the games needed to move along to something else.
