Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is no doubt one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, up there with Grant Theft Auto IV and Gears of War 2. MGS4 will hit store shelves on June 12, but until now there have been some lingering questions about the different SKUs that will be available. Thanks to today's update on PlayStation.Blog, the record has been set straight. Metal Gear Solid 4 will be available in four different SKUs, including a standard version, a Limited Edition, a bundled version with the Playstation 3, and a newly announced Limited Edition bundle.
Metal Gear Solid 4 Standard Edition
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack"
- $59.99
Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack"
- Metal Gear Solid 4 Soundtrack
- Addition Blu-Ray containing two documentaries
- $84.99 - Gamestop exclusive
Metal Gear Solid 4 Playstation 3 Bundle
- Metal Gear Solid 4 Standard Edition
- 80GB Playstation 3 with DualShock 3
- $499.99
Metal Gear Solid 4 LE Playstation 3 Bundle
- Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition
- Limited Edition gunmetal Playstation 3
The Limited Edition bundle was only just announced today, so there are a few details that still need to be revealed. Specifically, the version of the Playstation 3, storage capacity, controller type, and of course the price have yet to be disclosed. We also don't know what the distribution channel for this SKU will be. A similar gunmetal PS3 bundle was offered in Japan through Konami's website, which promptly sold out in a matter of minutes. Count on this being an online exclusive offer as well.
For those that already have a Playstation 3 and are planning on snagging MGS4, you should definitely consider preordering. By reserving a copy of either the SE or LE versions of the game, you'll receive an art book and the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2.0 DVD. The DVD itself contains background story info on the characters of the Metal Gear universe, but most importantly it also has an access code to the Metal Gear Online beta that begins in just over a week's time. Gamers will no doubt be going back and forth trying to decide if they should spring for a 40GB PS3 now and play the beta, or wait for the attractive bundle on June 12. Just make up your mind quick - those Saga Vol 2.0 DVDs probably won't last forever.
