The dust has settled and the thumbs can be iced for another year, as thirteen year-old Morgan Pozgar, of Claysburg, Pa., was named LG National Texting champion on Saturday. Pozgar beat out nearly 200 other competitors at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan to become East Coast champion, then went on to beat West Coast champion Eli Tirosh, 21, of Los Angeles.
The final round of the competition determined the winner by have both contestants type out the phrase: "Supercalifragilisticexpialidoucious! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud enough you'll always sound precocious", taken from Disney's Mary Poppins. Pozgar managed to complete the task, without any abbreviations, in about 15 seconds. Tirosh had actually seemed to finish first, however judges ruled that she had made a typo in the lyrics, costing her the championship. As the winner, Pozgar took home the text messaging crown and a total of $25,000 in prize money, $10,000 for winning the East Coast championship and another $15,000 for taking the National title.
“LG created the LG National Texting Championship to honor those who have mastered the art of rapid text messaging. Texting has changed the way people communicate,” said Jon Maron, senior director of marketing for LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. “The LG National Texting Championship gives our customers the opportunity to put their text messaging skills to the test in the ultimate battle for money and prizes.”
