Navigation
Many people have failed to notice that Burnout Paradise does offer a navigation system of sorts for all events except Stunt Runs. You'll know when and what direction you need to turn by paying attention to the blinking street sign at the top of your HUD. I find it much easier to pay attention to the navigation by turning off the music soundtrack, as it is easier to hear the “blinker” noise when it kicks in.
Art of the Takedown
Playing Road Rage in Burnout Paradise is much easier than it's been in previous Burnout titles. First of all, don't overuse the Burner. Road Rage is an event where you want to hang back, study the situation in front of you, and then kick in your burners for some slamming action. The best way to take down an opponent is to drive beside them and then slam into their side. If you're using an Aggressor-class car, then the slightest of taps will usually find the opponent eating wall.
One of the fringe-benefits of taking down a car is that is resets your position on the road. This means that the wall of oncoming traffic that would normally have crashed in to you can be avoided by performing a takedown. This is a great way to get out of nasty situations.
Beating Marked Man
First of all, using an Aggressor-class car is critical. The objective of any Marked Man event is to reach the goal by any means necessary, all while extremely violent AI cars attempt to destroy you. You need to be able to take a hit without flinching and better yet, be able to hit back with authority. More importantly, always be aware of where the nearest Repair Drive-Thru is located. If you wreck your car 3-4 times then it's game over, so hitting a repair center is a must. This will reset you back to zero crashes and allow you to continue racing. Keep in mind, you can't use the same repair center twice, so plan your route accordingly, hitting those garages as you cruise towards the finish line.
Stunt Runs
Stunt Runs are easy for the first few license levels, but when you're going for an Elite license, matters get decidedly more complex. In fact, besides the fun, there's no point doing stunt runs until you have the layout of Paradise City burned into your brain. Stunt Runs require a good sense of the map and a solid knowledge of where to find every jump, billboard and barrel-roll opportunity within a specific district.
The good news is, you don't have to do a single stunt run unless you're going for an Elite license, as there are more than enough events out there to raise your driving level.
End an Event Early
So you find yourself in an event and within seconds, you've crashed or worse, gone off course. There's no point suffering through the entire race when you know you're going to lose, especially when you have to drive all the way back to the start point if you want to try again. You can end any event early by simply bringing your car to a complete stop for a few seconds. This will cause the event to reset.
These strategies should help you get a good start off of the line, but there is a lot more to this game. If you have any good tips of your own for Burnout Paradise, share them in the comments section below!
