CDV Software and Ascaron Entertainment announced today that the PS3 version of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel went gold. Last Friday a similar announcement was made explaining that the Xbox 360 version was finalized and sent off for duplication. Unfortunately, right between the two publicized milestones, Sacred 2’s developer, Ascaron, quietly filed for bankruptcy in the regional court near its offices in Germany. Apparently it took longer to adapt the game from its original home on the PC to the two consoles then they had anticipated and the company ran out of funds before it could benefit from any sales at retail.

It’s a real shame because the GameAlmighty employees who have played it on the PC were pretty impressed with the game and have been talking it up to the rest of us as the console’s release date has neared. The screenshots they have been pushing out as well as the list of impressive features they say made it on to the respective systems has most of us anticipating it with some real interest too.

Fortunately, according to the developers website, it appears that the type of bankruptcy they filed will give them a chance to financially restructure, rather than just dissolve and disperse. If the console versions of the game live up to the praise we’ve heard about it on the PC, it would be a real shame to have yet another creative development house forced to close.

However, we’re also big fans of the free market system and survival of the fittest and we know it’s the consumer who votes with his wallet. So we’ll be sure to let you know our honest opinion before the game hits store shelves on May 12th.
