At a time when the majority of game companies mistakenly believe that innovation and originality are obscure terms from a bygone era, it’s a refreshing blast of crisp air that a company like Introversion Software not only exists, but is making progress towards profitability. A classic underdog in every sense, Introversion has battled and sued publishers when it came to their first game, Uplink. Having learned a few valuable lessons about the pitfalls of publisher intervention, Introversion ventured out on their own with their follow-up, Darwinia, opting to sell it over their website as well as Valve’s Steam service, which proved to make all the difference in terms of sales.
