To start getting you excited about the upcoming release of Mafia II the folks over at 2K Games have sent us a couple of large 2010 calendars featuring 12 months of gorgeous gals with guns engaged in all manner of illegal activities. Filled with everything from dropping a hair dryer into a John’s bathtub to cracking a safe, all of these dangerous damsels could be yours. Simply register here at the site (if you’re not already a member) and send an email to contest [at] game almighty [dot] com with the name of your favorite firearm in the subject line (as in H&K MP5, SIG Saur, etc.). Two people will be chosen at random to receive one of the femme fatale-filled MAFIA II calendars.
He was a Father, an actor, a soldier, and even a famous wrestler and manager in the WWF, but we’ll remember him best for being a plumber. A very large, very eccentric plumber who experimented with rubber band facial piercings.
Today we mourn the passing of Louis Vincent Albano due to natural causes. He is survived by his wife, their 4 children and 14 grandchildren. Our condolences to them on behalf of all of our staff.
As he goes towards the light at the end of the sewer pipe and moves on to the next level, our thoughts also go out to his brother Luigi and his longtime companion, Princess Peach.
On a more serious note… the person who comes up with the most creative alternate headline or opening sentence for this post in the comments below, will get some sort of Nintendo-related swag (still to be determined, but it will be worth your effort) and a free GameAlmighty t-shirt featuring the Captain himself.
Update: We have decided we will accept poems/hiakus, and illustrations too. Anything creative related to the passing. (And be sure your profile contains your correct email address so we can contact you in the event that you win.)
Are you incredibly hot? Do you find it hard getting through the monotonous day without your specially crafted gun holsters on your ankles? Do you have long, flowing hair with the tensile strength of steel, capable of pulling a 6-passenger car 50 meters through a Beijing suburb like Chinese kung fu woman Zhang Tingting?
Then Maxim and Sega want to hear from you! Maxim.com is running a contest until September 30, 2009 to find a real-life Bayonetta for Sega’s upcoming action game, Bayonetta. Sega stated that it is “looking for the one girl who best captures the style and attitude” of the ankle-gun toting protagonist in PlatinumGames’ upcoming title.
The winning contestant will be spotlighted on Maxim.com and will receive an Xbox 360 system, a 50-inch Panasonic TC-P50X1 Plasma HDTV and a copy of Bayonetta for the Xbox 360. Entrants have to be at least 18 years old and legal, female residents of either the U.S. or Canada.
Maxim, Sega and PlatinumGames will select the entrants for the online voting gallery and fans will vote on the top entries at Maxim.com from October 1 to October 23, 2009. PlatinumGames will then “factor in” all of the responses to determine the grand prize winner. In other words, American Idol-style voting. The winner will be announced on October 29, just in time to wear that Bayonetta costume for Halloween.
It seems like an April Fool’s joke, just judging from the headline, but further investigation reveals this to be true, though announcing such a thing on April 1st probably wasn’t the best idea. No matter, here’s the scoop: MTV Games and Harmonix have announced a new marketing endeavor with Paramount Pictures in anticipation of the new Star Trek movie, which opens on May 8th.
Beginning today, fans can register for a 15-day sweepstakes that will give away 500 free Rock Band Music Storedownloads each day from April 7th through April 21st for the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360(R) and PlayStation(R)Store for PlayStation3.
And if that’s not enough – fans will want to fire up Rock Band2’s online Battle of the Bands mode to participate in the STAR TREK Ultimate Battle. Bands of three to four players can battle the Rock Band galaxy. The band with the highest score will win a STAR TREK hometown movie screening for their band and their friends. Additionally, twenty randomly selected players will win an awesome STAR TREK/Rock Band prize pack equipped with STAR TREK and Rock Band gear. The Battle of the Bands component will begin on April 20th and run through April 27th.
The Rock Band and STAR TREK promotion will culminate when the first-ever avatar creation contest launches on April 27th. Fans will be asked to create a futuristic avatar in-game and export it to RockBand.com for the community and Harmonix team to judge the winner. The Duke of Gravity will ultimately decide which avatar has what it takes to rock with the Enterprise crew. The winner will be chosen on May 11th and win “The Future is Now” prize pack including the top of the line Rock Band game accessories.
Earlier this year it was reported in the San Jose Mercury News that a gaggle of PC titans had formed the PC Gaming Alliance. The organization, which includes such behemoths as AMD, Nvidia, Microsoft and Intel, has one major objective: save PC gaming from extinction.
The overwhelming success of console gaming, where a title like Call of Duty 4 can sell millions of copies without breaking a sweat, has left the PC platform in limbo over recent years, with an increasing number of developers jumping ship and heading for the greener pastures of Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360. One of the key strengths of console gaming is the uniform architecture that allows designers to make a game for a single specification, comfortable in the knowledge that it will run equally well for everyone. This strength is the PC’s Achilles Heel.
