General Map Strategies

Because of the dynamic nature of Battlefield 1943, the arena of combat is always changing and varied. The actions of your teammates and squad members can drastically alter tactics, based on which flags have been captured and what assets you have at your disposal. This makes a fool-proof strategy next to impossible, which is actually a good thing. However, that doesn’t mean there are some basics you should know for each of the three available maps.

Wake Island

Wake Island is a challenge to properly secure since it is shaped like a horseshoe. This makes it difficult to defend and assault without exposing some other region to enemy advances.

Despite its difficulty, there is one single objective that is the most critical: secure that airfield! Whichever side controls the airstrip basically controls the map.  Everything your side has at their disposal should be directed at the airfield, even if it requires heavy casualties. It’s worth the price!

Controlling the airfield gets you a fighter plane, an extra tank and, most importantly, access to the Air Raid.

Vehicles are especially important on this map as there aren’t a lot of places for infantrymen to hide. So make sure you’re using a vehicle, preferably a tank, to approach enemy positions.

Iwo Jima

The majority of the action will be taking place at the tall mountain at the far end of the island. It’s called Mount Suribachi and it is a death trap for anyone trying to assault. Coordination is of critical importance if you want to grab this lucrative flag, as anything less will undoubtedly end in disaster. It’s high vantage point makes sniping from here a breeze. Add several machine-gun emplacements and it is virtually impossible unless your team is prepared for the battle.

Your best bet is to soften the mountain with effective air strikes and use the ensuing chaos to make an advance. You want to use everything you have, tanks, jeeps, snipers, grenades, etc. Unleash everything and maybe, just maybe, you’ll grab this most difficult prize.

Guadalcanal

Guadalcanal is a sniper’s paradise, perhaps more so than the other two maps. There are tons of vantage points from which snipers can blow your head off, so advance carefully if you’re on foot and use whatever cover you can find to minimize your exposure. Vehicles play an important role here as the island is huge and getting around foot can take too long. Stay off the beaten path and try to sneak up on enemy positions using as much cover as possible.
