Tank Tactics

by Chris Jensen

If you are new to the Battlefield series and are looking for tips and tactics, then I recommend you read the original Battlefield 1943 Strategy Guide. It covers the basics like class loadouts, how to fight as a squad, securing objectives, etc. With the fundamentals under your belt, you are now ready to raise your game to the next level. What follows are several tricks and tactics I use that consistently find me racking up tons of points and ruling the leaderboard using nothing more than a tank.

The Tank

The Tank is my primary tool of destruction, though if you don’t know what you’re doing then you won’t survive long using one. On the battlefield tanks are usually the primary target for enemy attack, getting hit with grenades, mines, bazookas and grenade launchers which can quickly tear apart your vehicle. However, with these tactics you should be able to roll right over your opponents and on to victory.

Attack While Repairing – Two Players Required

The best situation is the following: have a friend join your squad and have him select the Infantry class. Infantry can repair vehicles, so they are critical for tank survival. Have your friend man the machine-gun turret while you drive.

If you spot an enemy tank then begin your engagement, preferably from as far away as possible. Once you’ve taken damage, your friend should hop out of the tank and begin repairs while you continue to engage. Optimally, your friend should conduct repairs at the rear of the tank while you engage the enemy facing forward. This will keep him relatively safe while you continue to pound away.

In this way, you can survive any one-on-one tank battle and, better yet, have a fully repaired tank when the skirmish ends, allowing you to move right onto the next target.

Attack and Repair

Tanking as a Solo Player

If you don’t have a second person in your tank then matters will be more difficult, but not impossible. If it looks like you’ll be playing the round without a co-driver, then you should select the infantry class so you can repair your own tank.

Attacked from all sides?

If your tank has suffered damage, exit the vehicle and conduct repairs from the rear of the tank, using the front as protection against any incoming attacks. Repairs can be done pretty quick, taking no more than a few seconds. Once completed, hop back into the tank and continue thrashing the enemy.
