TIE Fighter Cockpit

In a recent email interview with LucasArts’ President Darrel Rodriguez concerning the recent release of their classic Monkey Island titles, G4’s Patrick Klepek happened to ask if there were similar plans for their much loved X-Wing and TIE Fighter games. His response?

“We don’t have any announcements now, but stay tuned,” said Rodriguez. “We will soon…..”

It’s hard not to interpret that as confirmation, but whether that means there will just be an “enhanced” re-release of the originals or an entire remake of the games, we can only hope the answer is, “Yes!”

X-Wing Cockpit

If it were up to us they would go with a strategy similar to Capcom’s recent release of Bionic Commando: put an “enhanced” version of the original X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter up on Steam, Xbox Live and PSN just prior to a releasing an entire re-envisioning of the titles using a new game engine and a new storyline. Maybe even make it an MMO? But for the love of all that is holy, none of that Episode 1, 2, & 3 Shit. Please!

Oh, we wouldn’t mind the “enhanced” versions of the originals showing up on the iPhone, DS and PSP, too.

We hope you were taking notes, Mr. Rodriguez. And the sooner the better – personally, I’ve already spent too many hours of my life trying to get TIE Fighter and my 360 controller to play nice on my netbook!

You can read Patrick Klepek’s entire account of his exchange with the LucasArts suit here.
